The American suburbs are a giant Ponzi scheme |... →
One of humanity’s greatest strengths — our ability to innovate solutions to complex problems — can be a detriment when we misdiagnose the problem. Our problem was not, and is not, a lack of growth. Our problem is 60 years of unproductive growth — growth that has buried us in financial liabilities. The American pattern of development does not create real wealth. It creates the illusion of wealth....

This pain is just getting worse.
Ben and Jerry’s is not an effective painkiller. I will take the real thing, and accept the loopiness that comes. *Sigh*

LaLaLand: Andrew Jackson →
lalalaurenjoy: So I don’t like Andrew Jackson. He was a popular president, but I just figure he’s a pretty mean guy. It’s mostly his Native American policy, but I just generally don’t like him. (He also caused the Panic of 1837, too, but he didn’t have as much Economic policy history as the 7th President to… This is how I feel about Andrew Jackson, Cain!

Oh, dear Tumblr
I am so bored. I’ve been cooped up in this room feeling half-dead. You know what would make me feel better? Random stuff in my ask box Anything at all. I just want to interact with you, darlings.

Listen.
elswickianviolin: When I’m hurting the most, I don’t turn to drugs or alcohol. I turn to music.  In tenth grade when my boyfriend and I broke up, I learned to express my hurt through my music.  I can trust the violin with my feelings. I speak through it without an interpreter. I talk to God with it. Most of the time it expresses what I want to say better than words do.  To some, music is a...

A life is not measured in good deeds or bad, But by the heart that did them; Not by the amount of road that was travelled, But by the path it chose; Not in dollars and cents, But in the real fruits of its labor.

The Leviathan. A Crocodile? Really?
Here’s a snippet from the Book of Job, talking about the Leviathan. In my Bible, the foot note says it was probably a crocodile. Please read and see what you think: “I will not fail to speak of Leviathan’s limbs,    its strength and its graceful form. 13 Who can strip off its outer coat?    Who can penetrate its double coat of armor[b]? 14 Who dares open the doors of its mouth,    ringed...

I had all sorts of ideas of things to write about...
But of course, with no pen and paper nearby, I’m pretty sure it’s all gone, now. Maybe when I’m off the painkillers my ideas won’t seem to be slipping through my fingers.

I conquered a 14,297 foot mountain
Although it feels like it conquered me. In a lame attempt at getting “some color” on my legs, I decided it was a wise idea to sit on a cliff face for several hours at high elevation in the blazing Colorado sun. Obviously, I was sunburned. You’ve all seen my and know how ginger I am. I knew it was bad, but as the hiking progressed, it just got worse. Nothing exacerbates pain...
